The Torbay Business Association (TBA)The Torbay Business Association (TBA) is a not-for-profit community organisation supporting businesspeople and businesses serving the growing Waiake, Torbay, Long Bay and Okura area.
The Torbay Business Association (TBA) has been serving our local business community for 31 years. It was incorporated in 05 Sep 2007. It is run by an executive committee comprised of local business, property owners and Associate Members. The TBA is also one of 50 or so Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in Auckland. |
What Is A BID?
A BID is an economic development initiative focusing on a specified commercial area, such as the Torbay town centre.
Businesses and property owners within the BID area pay a levy on their rates to Council which Council makes available to the TBA to use on its activities. The TBA’s responsibilities as a BID are set out in the Auckland Council’s BID Policy.
If your property or business is one of the marked BID affiliate properties in the above map, you can see how much the BID levy amount for the property is on the reverse side of your commercial rates invoice. If you are leasing part of the property, your OPEX costs likely includes a proportion of the BID levy in it.
The TBA executive committee (elected at the TBA Annual General Meeting) determines how this money is spent via its business and strategy plans. All BID Affiliate property owners and lessees are entitled to full membership of the TBA, but you must notify the TBA if you wish to be considered a member of the TBA as it is a stand alone Incorporated Society. You must be a member of the TBA to vote and be elected onto the executive committee.
