UPDATE from
Carole McMinn,
Torbay Mainstreet Co-ordinator.
June 2009Hi there,
Just to keep you in the loop of all that is happening.
You may be aware of the new public toilets now ( situated behind
the shops in the Community Centre car park.) They look
really splendid.
I now have resource consent (only took 10 months!!) and am
awaiting building consent and we will have our new welcome to
Torbay signsl There will be three surrounding the village.
Phase 1 of our new Centre street lights should be installed very
shortly. These lights are the same as those in the Brown's Bay
boardwalk and we will lights on both sides of the road, at
present we only have lights one side.
The village Centre, the Plaza is now advanced in its plans
and we hope to see that completed this coming summer. This will
give a central point of focus to our community.
I have also been to both council and community board and asked
that they make provision for a children's play area, the same as
they have in Mairangi Bay and Brown's Bay. This is being very
sympathetically looked at , by council at present. I have
to say both council and community board have been VERY
supportive in these efforts to upgrade Torbay.
The act to pass the supercity has been and gone, that is now a
fact but on June 26th the select committees will meet to look at
the second stage of their proposals. I do not believe this is a
good act. We stand to lose a lot of our grass roots democracy
and funding. I have prepared a
submission.
Anyone can send these ( you need only be an individual). You
need to print it off and fill in your name and address under
introduction. Time is short, they need to be received by
Thursday 26th this week. Please take the time to read it and if
you agree with the submission, print it off , fill it out and
post it off.
Don't forget to look out for the new upgrades in the coming
weeks.
Many thanks, working on your behalf
